What is Coaching?

A coach (or “Behavioral Consultant”) is trained to help you create and implement sustainable changes to improve your life. Our coaches are familiar with neurodivergent patterns of perceiving and processing, making them an ideal choice for neurodivergent clients seeking clarity, personal growth, and beneficial change. 

Our coaches regularly consult with our clinical team to remain actively informed in the field of mental health. In addition to preparing coaches to work effectively with neurodivergent clients, this also prepares coaches to more effectively stay within the boundaries of coaching and identify when clients may be better served by other members of the clinical team. When clinically appropriate, active coaching clients receive wait-list priority for therapists within the Halcyon network. The strong working relationships between coaches and therapists at Halcyon also allow for a collaborative approach to promoting behavioral change and mental health; clients may select to work with both a coach and therapist from the Halcyon team to accelerate growth and address challenges across multiple areas.

Coaching is intended to:

  1. Identify clear, obtainable goals and the steps necessary to achieve them.
     

  2. Identify patterns of thought and behavior that are interfering with the achievement of those goals.
     

  3. Assist in creating and implementing plans and systems to address interference and achieve goals.
     

  4. Monitor progress and maintain accountability, help troubleshoot obstacles that may arise and adjust as needed.

Coaching is NOT intended to:

► Address severe acute distress

► Explore or resolve past traumas

► Treat mental health diagnosis

 

If any of these three areas are an active focus, therapy is the recommended service.

Please note that receiving coaching services will never exclude or prevent you from receiving psychotherapy services at Halcyon. Our coaches work closely with our therapists and, if appropriate, we can work as a team to provide both therapy and coaching sessions (subject to provider availability). Our coaches are also happy to collaborate with a pre-established therapist outside of Halcyon around your goals and progress.

  • A broad survey by the International Coaching Federation found that 80% of people who receive coaching report increased self-confidence and over 70% report improvements in work performance, relationships, and communication skills.

  • An international survey of coaching outcomes revealed that clients report coaching helped them in the following areas: improve their relationships (72%), communication skills (72%), interpersonal skills (71%), work performance (70%), work/life balance (67%), and wellness (63%).   • A study of 391 coaching recipients demonstrated that coaching can "improve psychological well-being, while mitigating threats to mental health such as excessive and prolonged stress, low resilience, and poor satisfaction with life."
